These drives are very slow - 6MB/sec real world writes which is approx. 50 Megabits/sec. USB 3.1 should go up to 5 Gigabits/sec which is approx. 600 Megabytes/sec with 1 Gigabit being 128MB/sec, 1 Megabit being 128KB/sec. Crystaldiskmark claims 135ish MB/sec or just over 1 Gigabit for reading, and just under 0.5 Gigabit for writing. Random is MUCH MUCH slower, 0.27 Megabytes per second.They jump up for the first few seconds, but usually settle around 6 to 12MB/sec. This is VERY slow. The jump in the first few seconds is because of how Windows calculates speed per second, and the amount of data transferred before that window opens is added so so you see a boost, then it drops to the real speed.I gave it 4 stars instead of 3 ( speed ), because they actually work in my car. The last USB 3 drive I ordered of this size did not work in my car for media. This does so it gets an extra star.The blinding red LED they chose to use for transfer is the reason they got docked another star. I'm not sure whether or not I will be able to use these in my car because of how bright and distracting the light is. I'll have to see if I can disassemble them and disable the light, or paint the end to dim it.For an inexpensive drive which I purchased primary to give photos to an old friend, these will serve their purpose. If I get a higher capacity car drive out of it, then that is great.
